I’m not sure who said it but I’ve always liked it…
“If you think you are enlightened then go and spend a weekend with your family.”
I think we all know what this points to.
Over the years I’ve fallen in and out of love with Christmas. Now I find I quite enjoy it. I view it differently than I did in the past. I now try to use it to see my own shit and find the good in everything. Not the surface, but what dwells deep beneath.
It’s going to be different for everybody. It’s the darkest time of the year. Less light than any other month. Hence the endless references to candles. The light within needs to be found, cultivated and cherished.
Just watch a candle for a while, it will amaze you. A flame hovering above a gap of empty silence. It seems almost impossible. The candle is used in meditation for this very reason. It invokes in us our own stillness and light. Our minds cannot keep running a story when it is left alone and you just focus on the space between. We all have this resting constantly inside us. Everyone, no one was left out. It may flicker or glow brighter at times but it never goes out. So if you can bring this to your Christmas it may just be felt by all. A warmth and light in the darkest of times.
They do love you, they have just forgotten who they are. You do love them, you have just forgotten who you are.
Happy Christmas everyone.
I love you.
